9 Weeks - Olive R. Twist

A day early, as we are heading down to Melbourne tomorrow for a wedding, but tomorrow I'm 9 weeks! Baby Aff is now the size of an olive and according to the books the foetus is out of the tadpole/alienesque stage and is now a full fledged (adorable) unborn vertebrate.

I read on the Woolworths baby page that at 9 weeks babies have nipples. Cool right? However, I then saw that on a different page that nipples are visible from 19 weeks. Wait a minute...did I just miss a 1? Or what what if my baby has an extra 10 weeks of nipple growth? Now I'm visualising giving birth to a cat or a baby with silver dollar pancake nips and panic is creeping in.

So, as any sane person would do, I Googled "When do fetuses develop nipples?". After spending about 10 minutes reading from the Mammary Development Resource Library (from the University of Illinois... clue one) and scanning over a section discussing the udder shape variations (clue two)... I got it... *DUH forehead slap moment!*.... "bovine" is referring to cattle,  not just a derogatory name for pregnant women. Pffew!

Unfortunately, I did not get the answer to my pending nipple question but nonetheless panic has receded and you will be happy to know that I have decided I will be content with my offspring's teats, regardless of quantity and size.
