9 Weeks - Olive R. Twist

A day early, as we are heading down to Melbourne tomorrow for a wedding, but tomorrow I'm 9 weeks! Baby Aff is now the size of an olive and according to the books the foetus is out of the tadpole/alienesque stage and is now a full fledged (adorable) unborn vertebrate.

I read on the Woolworths baby page that at 9 weeks babies have nipples. Cool right? However, I then saw that on a different page that nipples are visible from 19 weeks. Wait a minute...did I just miss a 1? Or what what if my baby has an extra 10 weeks of nipple growth? Now I'm visualising giving birth to a cat or a baby with silver dollar pancake nips and panic is creeping in.

So, as any sane person would do, I Googled "When do fetuses develop nipples?". After spending about 10 minutes reading from the Mammary Development Resource Library (from the University of Illinois... clue one) and scanning over a section discussing the udder shape variations (clue two)... I got it... *DUH forehead slap moment!*.... "bovine" is referring to cattle,  not just a derogatory name for pregnant women. Pffew!

Unfortunately, I did not get the answer to my pending nipple question but nonetheless panic has receded and you will be happy to know that I have decided I will be content with my offspring's teats, regardless of quantity and size.

8 Weeks - Johnny Cashew

Had my dating scan today and looks like we are further along than expected... 8 WEEKS! Due date is officially October 2, 2014!

Andy's response was "Great, footy grand final week. Ruined forever." I said maybe this baby will be the luck charm the Broncos need oh so badly. SNAP.

Went to the Dr expecting a vaginal US and was slightly disappointed when she only did the external US. I know I know, it was much less uncomfortable than expected, but I cleaned up ground zero for nothing?!? Shaved legs and everything. Besides all the work that went into the preparation, it was amazing! The Dr said that it was 1.5 cm long and we saw the heartbeat!!! 168 bpm. It was the cutest vibrating little cashew I've ever seen. I was really excited and forgot to ask if we could get a picture. For some reason I just kept clapping, so if you really want a visual just imagine a pregnant retarded seal.

Here is my current belly. Please keep in mind I just ate some awesome GYG pork nachos and a litre of water. Sorry there is not cute chalkboard sign or disgusting bathroom selfie, but I'm currently busy making a couch angel.

How far along: 8 weeks
Total weight gain: Feels like a bit, but scale says no.
Maternity clothes? Nope, but it's been too hot to wear pants. Looking forward to some sweet elasty-jeans.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Fine at night, but need a nap often. Pretty norm.
Best moment this week: Saw the flutter of the black and white heartbeat! So art deco!
Miss Anything? Feta! Didn't realize how I put it on everything! And Diet Coke.
Movement: Just gas.
Food cravings: Cheese and cranberry juice.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Seem to only get nauseous in the afternoons and around dinner. I think baby just wants
mama to have a break from cooking. Ganging up on Daddy A already... muhahaha
Gender: NFI... Today I feel it's a boy.
Labor Signs: Nope
Symptoms: Giant sore fun bags
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Very excited and happy! Scared for school to start next week though!
Looking forward to: Finally getting Andy to organise the garage so we can clear out the bubs room.

Little socks and uterine fruit...

Told the folks (Geraghty and Affleck) this past weekend and they are already starting our baby collection! Maybe... just maybe... I had Andy buy me the zebra onesie, but seriously? Could I really pass that up? Thanks Grandma Straight and G-Affo for the good start to the baby bonds collection. How cute are baby socks?!?!?!

I have my dating Ultra Sound on Thursday. Hoping to hear a heartbeat and get a more accurate age... I'm aiming for a berry of some sort or a sweet-pea based solely on the adorable and painless vision of giving birth to a baby blueberry. However, as this child grows, I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy comparing my growing womb to a cornucopia of obscure health foods. People go so far to find a fruit or veggie that fits the size of the growing child that they will pick any random fruit like a kumquat. What the hell is a kumquat? I've also seen a corn cob. Is that some perverted joke? Next it will be a durian. If I give birth to a durian I'm done.

It is true. I got knocked up and am with child. Andy and I are very excited but have absolutely NO idea what to expect! Therefore, I have decided to document the future 8 months including the good, bad and the hormonally ugly. Wish all of my family and friends could be near, but since I've ended up 1/2 way across the world (oops) this blog will have to do.

I will try to update every week, and hope you enjoy all the cute purchases and gory details! Let the adventure begin!
